Oxford Place “Net Zero” Senior Apartments – Community Planning Process

Please join us this evening from 6:30-8 pm for our second of four community planning sessions for the proposed Oxford Place Senior Apartments. Thanks to over 40 of you who joined us on May 6th for the first meeting. For those of you who couldn’t make it on May 6th, we’ll do a short recap and reporting out from the first meeting to bring you up to speed.
Like last time, after the recap, you’ll be free to join one of four working groups who are planning various aspects of the development including:
1. Sustainability – How do we deliver on the promise to make Oxford Place the State’s first Energy Positive or Net Zero multifamily development?
2. Resident Care & Quality of Life – What types of unit amenities, project amenities or services are ideal for Oxford Place?
3. Community Connections – How does Oxford Place design best compliment and encourage resident interaction with nearby properties and amenities (East Washington Branch Library, proposed Rocketship Academy, DayStar Childcare, transit access, etc..)?
4. Community Clean-up & Celebration – How might we best celebrate our completed plan while also making initial physical improvements to the subject site (ie plantings, trees, installation art)?
The Resident Care & Quality of Life group, including you if interested, will travel to the nearby St. Clair Senior Apartments to see first hand another senior development in our community. Plus, we’ll promise to get you out of the meeting and home in time to catch the Pacer game!

Englewood Community Development Corporation and SIREN (Southern Indiana Renewable Energy Network, http://www.sirensolar.org) are hosting a solar seminar. Anyone who has ever wondered about what it would cost, where to find the installers, benefits vs. expenses, here is your chance to get practical information about solar and whether it’s right for you, including hearing from people who have done it. After presentation is over, you are invited to take a tour of the 80 panel solar installation on the rooftop of Englewood.

Indianapolis Women’s Half Marathon – Volunteers Needed!
The Indianapolis Women’s Half Marathon is right around the corner and we are looking for volunteers! We would love to have you join us at one of our water stops! The race is Saturday, June 7th, downtown Indianapolis.
We are currently looking to fill stops:
A- 6:00am-8:15am
B- 6:15am-8:30am
F- 6:30am-9:50am
J – 6:15am-11:15am

This is a great way to get involved in the community with your family, friends or co-workers! Kids are welcomed and encouraged. Kids under the age of 14 will need an adult.

DIY Herbal Oil Infusions
May 21, 6:30p.m. Community Herbalist, Greg Monzel, will demonstrate how to make your own herbal oil infusions. Herbal oil infusions can be used for body care and for cooking. Each participant will leave with two 2oz herbal oil infusions that you make yourself.

DIY Laundry Soap
May 27, 6:30p.m. Join Abby and Kathy for a hands-on lesson in DIY Laundry Soap. You’ll learn all the steps to make both liquid and powder laundry soap, as well as how to experiment with essential oils to scent your laundry soap.

Illegal dumping program announcement
Mayor Ballard will be making an announcement regarding the new Illegal dumping procedures, this Thursday at 1pm at 1904/1908 East Maryland. The Illegal Dumping Abatement Program will take effect on June 1, 2014. You are welcome to attend or perhaps send a representative from your neighborhood if you can not.

“BRINGING US TOGETHER AS ONE”
What are the NESCO Neighborhood Games?
Each summer, the Near Eastside Neighborhoods in Indianapolis, Indiana come together for a week of neighborhood-friendly, Olympic-style games. These events celebrate friendships, good-natured competition, light-hearted fun, and community cooperation. Events such as basketball, softball, volleyball, street hockey, dodgeball, table tennis, corn hole, cooking, frisbee golf, running, cards, and trivia allow for a week of great fun for all who live or work on the Near Eastside.How does it work?
Individuals and teams enter events in an effort to try and win a medal for their neighborhood or Near Eastside Organization. Like the Olympics, each medal (Gold, Silver, and Bronze) is worth points (5, 3, and 1). At the end of the week of competition, the neighborhood or organization with the most points wins the NESCO Neighborhood Games. When does it take place?
The NESCO Games are held each summer during the third full week of June. The 2014 NESCO Neighborhood Games will take place from June 14th through June 21st. For additional schedule information, please click here.

How can I take part?
If you, your organization, or your neighborhood would like to compete in an event, please begin by viewing the available events on the events page. Then, simply register for the events you wish to participate in using the free registration page.
How can I help?
The NESCO Neighborhood Games need annual volunteer and donor support. The costs associated with staging these games are limiting. Only through the help of volunteers and sponsor donations can this event continue from year to year.

Neighborhood Summit
The next neighborhood summit to discuss the Near Eastside Quality of Life Plan is on July 10th at Shepherd Community Center at 6:30pm.
