Election Day – TUESDAY!
Local government accounts for nearly a tenth of gross domestic product, it collects nearly as much in taxes as the federal government, and its decisions have an enormous impact on Americans’ daily lives. Since local campaigns are kind of low key, voters somehow get the impression these elections aren’t all that important — but nothing could be further from the truth. Positions on the school board, zoning commission and library board shape the quality of life and future direction of our towns — the places where we live our lives — in ways that are vastly more direct than the federal government.
Democracy can still work, but leaders elected by a handful of voters isn’t democracy at all. Your neighbors, your kids and your property values are all counting on you to guide your town to a future that’s supported by a true majority. Find the time, make the difference and vote.
If you are already registered to vote, here’s where you can find more information on where your polling place is located and who the candidates are: https://indianavoters.in.gov/PublicSite/PublicMain.aspx

Fall Leaf Collection Begins Nov. 10th
City’s Fall Leaf Collection Begins November 10
INDIANAPOLIS – The Indianapolis Department of Public Works (DPW) will begin collecting fall leaves in Marion County beginningMonday, November 10 through Friday, December 5. Residents may dispose of as many as 40 bags of leaves per household each week during the collection window on their regular trash day.
Each year, DPW collects about 2,000 tons of leaves through this free program.
Indianapolis residents are asked to follow a few simple guidelines:
- Place leaves in plastic or specially built large paper yard waste bags.
- Place leaf bags outside by 7 a.m. on your regular trash day.
- In cart areas, keep all leaf bags at least 3 feet away from trash carts so trucks can access carts. Keep in mind, any trash outside carts will not be collected.
This fall, residents should also clear leaves and debris from storm drains to avoid drainage and flooding problems.
It is illegal for residents to burn leaves in Marion County. Smoke from burning leaves pollutes the air with harmful particles and is hazardous to young children and people with heart and lung disease.
To find your regular and heavy trash days, enter your address at this link.

Open Burning Caution
Indianapolis Fire Department urges residents to use caution when open burning
Chilly weather and falling leaves offer opportunity to re-educate and remind
The Indianapolis Fire Department would like to remind residents to use caution and follow set guidelines with regard to leaves and open burning. Burning leaves in Marion County is illegal and fines of up to $2,500 may be imposed to those in violation. The IFD encourages you to visit the Department of Code Enforcement website at http://indy.gov/eGov/City/DCE/envsvcs/Pages/Open-Burning.aspx or call 327-2236. The website has excellent resources available with information about leaf collection, open burning and other options such as composting. Legal open burning includes cooking fires such as barbecue grills, campfires, patio fire pits, chimenea’s and dried twigs, limbs or branches collected from your property within an appropriate container. The use of a non-combustible metal container with a ventilated mesh covering is mandatory and the fire must be attended at all times. Never let a child or pet play near an open burn. We ask that if you do burn twigs and sticks, please be considerate of your neighbor and let them know in advance. The smoke and by-products produced by open burning may be an irritant to those who live near you and can create or worsen a pre-existing medical condition. Any fire considered a nuisance and reported to the IFD or IMPD can and will be extinguished…even if it is legal.

Near Eastside Story Slam
Indy Near East Rivoli Park Neighborhood Art
We are striving to bring beauty to the Near Eastside of Indianapolis.
If you join us by painting or donating, we will add your name to the wall. Please consider donating 22 dollars to sponsor one 22 inch geometric section of the design. The sides of the larger sections of the design are 53 inches. Would you support a larger portion of the design with a donation at the $53 level? Each section of the mural represents the people of the neighborhood interconnecting.
The wall that we are decorating is 120 feet long and 12 foot high. This intersection at E 10th Street and N Sherman Drive is passed by a steady stream of people in cars, on bikes and on foot. We have removed the graffiti and chipped paint and started work on the endcap on the East end of the wall through the donations of just a few people. We want to bring joy and peace and beauty to the people who both live here and travel through here with the design created by Near Eastside artist, Andrew Severns. You can connect with him on Facebook atwww.facebook.com/andrewsevernsart.
We are a up and coming neighborhood with so many wonderful people and so much potential. We want to bring art to the residents and the residents to art as we engage them in our projects as volunteers. The design is made in such a way as to encourage community participation in painting it. Please contact Lisa Boyles at (317) 372-6983 or basilheart@gmail.com if you would like to help us paint or you have paint donations.
We have chosen colors to accommodate the mural on the other side of the street. We hope to raise more than the amount listed to be able to also decorate the columns of this underpass with the colorful geometric design as well and decorate other areas in the neighborhood too. Spread the word!
Please support this project at whatever level you are able. Suggested donations: $22 for a small section…$53 for a larger section…$120 to go above and beyond to support the painting of a column. We will be having a celebration party on Saturday November 22nd from 3-5 pm with all the donors and volunteers invited. Your check donation can also be mailed in to NEAR at 2236 E 10th St, Indianapolis, IN 46201 with Rivoli Park Mural Project in the memo line. Your donation will be tax deductible.
It is our sincere hope that this art will bring a smile to those that pass by and see the joy that went into this project.
