Rivoli Park Labyrinth Summer Solstice

Join us as we celebrate a year of bringing light and life to this community space with a picnic potluck on the summer solstice. The event is on Saturday, June 21st at 6 pm. Bring a chair or blanket and something to share to eat if you can. If you have another offering to share, such as playing music or creating art, that would be fun to add to the mix. The Rivoli Park Labyrinth is located a half block south of the Value World on E. 10th St. in the 900 block of N Kealing Ave.

DPS Citizens Academy

Be a Public Safety Advocate!

The City of Indianapolis Department of Public Safety (DPS) is excited to introduce the inaugural DPS Citizens Academy.

The mission of the DPS Citizens Academy is to raise awareness about the diverse, difficult and crucial roles the employees of the department fill in order to enhance public safety and quality of life for citizens and visitors of Indianapolis.  Furthermore, the DPS Citizens Academy will develop community advocates to help address future challenges in public safet

The DPS Citizens Academy will run every Wednesday from June 25 through September 10 (off the week of July 4) from 6 p.m. – 10 p.m.  Participants will cycle through a set of the unique and engaging modules offered by representatives from the Department’s agencies: Indianapolis Emergency Medical Services (IEMS), Division of Homeland Security (DHS), Division of Animal Care & Control (ACC), Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD) and Indianapolis Fire Department (IFD).

In addition, participants will be able to take advantage of exciting ride-a-long opportunities to see first-hand the courageous work performed each day by DPS employees.  This one-of-a-kind experience will provide insights into the Department’s operations and develop champions throughout the community to help address crime and public safety issues in Indianapolis.

The inaugural class will be limited to 30 participants, so click here to submit your application today!   Deadline for applications is Wednesday, June 18.

Blight Elimination Public Input Hearing

When: Tuesday, July 8th at 1:30 p.m.
Where: Old City Hall (202 North Alabama)
What: The state recently awarded the state 6.4 million dollars to tear down the worst of the worst properties in the city. The public has an opportunity to comment on homes being proposed for demolition.

If you believe there is a home on this list that should not be torn down, please attend this hearing.

Near Eastside Neighborhood Summit – July 10th

Quarterly meeting to manage the Near Eastside Quality of Life Plan. Anyone who lives, works, worships, or is otherwise interested in the Near Eastside of Indianapolis is welcome to attend. We will be voting on important items to be added, edited, or removed from the quality of life plan. We may also be forming task forces to work on items that are currently in the plan. As always, we will celebrate the great things our neighborhood has been doing to improve the quality of life for all individuals who live and love our community.

U-Pick Vegetable Garden – Growing Places Indy

The wait is over! We’re excited to debut our new U-Pick vegetable garden at the Chase Near Eastside Legacy Centerthis Thursday from 4-7 p.m., with additional weekly hours Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon!
You’ll have the chance to pick squash (quantities limited!) and basil, plus baby kale, baby collards and baby chard, or mix the three.
Our Farm Stand will run the same days and hours as the
U-Pick, featuring scallions, turnips, chard, collards, kale, garlic scapes, various herbs, mulberries, pea shoots, sunflower shoots and fresh-cut flower bouquets.
Credit cards, cash, checks and SNAP EBT will be accepted for produce at both the U-Pick and the Farm Stand! TheFresh Bucks matching program will match SNAP as well.

Chocolate 5K – to benefit Teacher’s Treasures

Proudly partnering with Teachers’ Treasures, Inc.!

All chocolate is compliments of NR Road Racing. It is not mandatory for you take part, but you are more than welcome to have some sweet treats on us! There will be chocolate stations set up along the three mile course and of course, some more at the end!

We’ll supply the Ghirardelli® chocolates along the way. For any of you with food allergies, please read the following “Allergy Information” from the Ghirardelli® people. We’ve also found what may be a blast from the past for some of you… Remember Choc-ola? Well it’s back & we have it for you.
