LISC is collaborating with its investment affiliate,  the New Markets Support Company (NMSC) to provide small business loans. Applications will be accepted by LISC’s NMSC throughout the Greater Indianapolis area.  NMSC has provided over $700 million of commercial loans and investments to distressed urban and rural communities.

LISC Indianapolis has already administered loans through its New Markets Support Corporation subsidiary including the conversion of The Foundry building in Indianapolis, now home to a real estate firm, an internet car dealership and a cafe.  [HOTLINK to The Foundry Article? Englewood Community Cleanup Day

Community Cleanup THIS Saturday!  Neighbors will meet at Englewood Church parking lot at 57 N. Rural in the parking lot and walk to the site of the proposed Oxford Place Senior Apartments.  The cleanup will run until around noon.

Foundation East BoxaBonanza

Foundation East presents BoxaBanza, a public art and place making project taking place on the 2014 Indy Do Day (Oct. 2-4). Area Indianapolis artists will pair up with Near Eastside neighborhoods to transform existing traffic signal boxes along public corridors into works of art representing the vibrancy of these communities. In a perfect world, Foundation East would have the funding and manpower to transform every signal box within the Near Eastside into a work of art. This is not, however, a perfect world. Therefore, BoxaBanza will focus on 5 neighborhoods within the Near Eastside and provide matching funding to provide full-color vinyl wrap for up to 15 traffic signal boxes. To be considered for BoxaBanza, please submit this application by July 31, 2014.

Application

BoxaBanza Neighborhood partners will be notified by August 4th regarding their acceptance.

If selected as a neighborhood partner, Foundation East will coordinate work between area artists, the Indianapolis Department of Public Works, and other community organizations to transform the traffic signal boxes within your neighborhood into place making works of public art. Foundation East will also work to provide the funding and materials needed for the painting of traffic signal boxes within your neighborhood.

Please read through the following information to learn more about BoxaBanza. (Note: if you are super antsy and just want to get to the application, click your way through to Page 3).

Neighborhood Home Tour Opens Doors to Homeownership

Saturday, August 16
11am – 3pm
East 10th St. & Dorman St.

If you’ve ever wanted to see inside the historic homes or the shiny new contemporary houses going up around the Near Eastside, now’s your chance.

Next month, NEAR is partnering with a cluster of local developers to host the first ever Near East Open Doors Tour—a tour of Near Eastside homes that span the spectrum of pricing, neighborhoods, and styles. We’re out to prove that—historic or modern, affordable or affluent—the Near Eastside has homes for anyone looking to settle in a great community near downtown, near developing trails, wooded urban parks, interesting shops and eateries, and robust educational options.

But don’t feel like you have to be in the market for a new house to join the fun. Anyone is welcome to see all the great homes and experience the community the Near Eastside offers.

The Neighborhood Project

How is your neighborhood changing?

By Andrea Muraskin | Jul. 01, 2014

theneighborhoodprojectwordle-1100px-3

Is there a story in your neighborhood waiting to be told?

This is your opportunity to help shape news coverage of the place you live.

My name is Andrea Muraskin, and I’m a freelance journalist. I’m working with 90.1 WFYI News on a new initiative we’re calling the Neighborhood Project. We’re using the PIN to learn about changes in Indianapolis neighborhoods from the people who make this city their home.

In the questionaire below, we’re looking for trends, concerns and points of pride. Most of all, we want to know about changes: good, bad, and in between. After submitting your answers, you may be contacted for more information and perhaps an interview.

Stories generated by this project will air on 90.1 FM and be shared on wfyi.org and via social media. We can take comments until August 31, 2014.

Contact information you share on this form may be used by WFYI and other news organizations that are members of the PIN to contact you with future queries. It will not be used for advertising or fundraising purposes.

Thank you for your input!
